Jasper '18 picks Richmond

All-State receiver chooses to stay home.
Justin Jasper '18 has decided to stay home and play football for the Richmond Spiders.

The 6-3 wide receiver had offers up into the teens, mostly from high-academic powers like Penn, Princeton, Cornell, West Point, Columbia and Brown. Jasper is one of the top students at StC in the class of 2018, carrying a 4.2 grade-point average.

But once the Richmond offer hit on August 3rd, it was too good for Jasper to pass up.

"For me, it was the coaching staff and the academics," Jasper said. "I really felt like the Richmond guys really appreciated what I do on the field, and then Richmond's really a place I can challenge myself academically."

Jasper is the second StC football player to commit to an FCS power, joining offensive tackle Henry Schroeder, a JMU pledge. Jasper is an all-Prep League and all-state pick, and caught 45 passes for 664 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016.

There are several other StC graduates on the UR roster, including Tazle Sumpter '16, Ganon Hingst '14, Jacob Roberson '15 and Duncan Rogers '15.
