RPD Officer Chris Duane '04 shows gratitude in the wake of tragedy

Officer Duane survived shooting in Mosby Court that killed Special Agent Michael Walter
At the end of May, Virginia State Police Special Agent Michael Walter was tragically killed in the line of duty during an incident in Richmond's Mosby Court. Richmond Police Department officer Chris Duane, '04, was Special Agent Walter's partner, and was with him when he was fatally shot.

Speaking at Special Agent Walter's Funeral, Chris explained, "Mike and I were working together, pressed shoulder to shoulder, when the shot that ended his life was fired. I can also tell you he fought as hard as a human being can fight until the very end. Of the two of us, Mike is the one who was hit, sparing my life. My family and I owe Mike a lifetime of humble gratitude."

Recently, Chris sent a Richmond Police Department patch to Tony Szymendera, head of the Upper School, thanking the St. Christopher's family for the tremendous love and support shown to him in the wake of this tragedy.

It is for us to thank you, Chris, for your service to our community. We are so very proud to call you one of our own.
