Saints Finish Second at States

The varsity wrestling team took second place in the VISAA state tournament this Saturday at the Arthur Ashe Center, losing to Benedictine 342-334.5. The win was the Cadets' fourth straight state title.
The fate of the title was decided in the dramatic 182-pound championship match between Carter Davis '18 and Benedictine's Bailey Coates. Coates outlasted Davis 3-2, making a comeback impossible for the Saints.
Four StC wrestlers had already beaten Benedictine opponents in the championship round, but their efforts weren't enough to get the Saints a state title, a title they haven't won since 2012 after winning 11 straight.
All 14 starting Saints wrestlers reached the podium, the most in school history.
Connor Alexander '19, Gray Hart '18, Bo Williamson '17, Jackson Turley '19, Tanner Hood '17, and Jens Ames '18 all won individual titles in their respective weight classes. StC's six individual titles was the most of any other team.
Carter Davis '18 and DT Badley '17 both took second place, Trey Ashby '18 and Seth Wagner '19 took third, John Flood '19 took fourth, Loudon Hurt '20 took fifth, and William Tappen '18 and Luke Hart '21 took seventh to round out scoring for the Saints.
The team hopes to move on at Prep Nationals, where they expect to build on last year's fifth-place finish. Wrestling begins on Friday at Lehigh University (PA).
