Spring 2018 Class: BUILD and 3D Printing
B.U.I.L.D. (Boys Using Innovation to Learn and Design) is a ground-breaking initiative for our boys in grades JK-12 to help bring our Second Century Vision to life. We use hands-on activities in classes that use art, technology, and design to prepare our boys for the world that is looking for complex thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborators. In this Chamberlayne Scholars session, we will focus on 3D printing, one aspect of B.U.I.L.D., to share some of the great work that our boys are doing and allow you to create your own 3D printed designs.Topics Will Include:
- How 3D Printing Works - The mystery is revealed!
- How 3D Printing is Changing Industries - Almost every day one can find an article about how 3D printing is changing industries, such as medicine and advertising.
- Design Thinking - What makes good design?
- 3D Design - Using a CAD Program, each participant will design, build, and print an object on our state-of-the-art 3D Printer.
This course will use both the state-of-the-art Digital Arts Lab and our B.U.I.L.D Lab. Participants will be using the lab's iMac computers, and will get to design and print objects on the 3D printer in the B.U.I.L.D Lab!
