This year's X-Term, which will run from May 25-June 4, will offer a rich variety of opportunities for students to take their learning off campus, whether around the city, the country, or the world. From an analysis of the science and technology of roller coasters,to a study of filmmaking in Los Angeles, to immersion in French language and culture in Martinique, students will get the chance to build relationships and explore their interests on-location with a cohort of peers.
Jay Weisbrod '09 visited Mrs. Zhu's Chinese 2 Honors class on Oct. 24 to share his experiences in China and talk with students about how language and cultural skills helped shape his career path. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Jay landed a teaching job in southwestern China. He then moved on to work for the world’s largest textile manufacturer, Esquel Group, which produces about 100 million shirts annually for leading brands including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Nike. He worked with all Chinese colleagues and became proficient in Mandarin. Recently, he took a job with Smithfield Foods and will start working half of the time in China and half of the time in the States.
Monty Hannaford is an ASSIST scholar from Sydney, Australia, who is spending his junior year at St. Christopher's. Monty is a strong runner and enjoys fly fishing, surfing, rugby, and soccer as well as the visual arts. He is being hosted by 8th grader Willem Peters.
