Behind three state champions and three state runner-ups, the varsity wrestling team placed second in the state VISAA tournament Saturday at Hermitage High School.

It is StC's third straight runner-up finish after taking 11 straight state championships.

The Saints finished 4.5 points behind champion Benedictine. Joey Prata '16 (113 pounds) and Carrington Lanier '15 (195) won their second straight state titles. D.T. Badley '17 (Heavyweight) won his first title, winning 6-5 in overtime.

Only Liberty Christian, the third-place finisher, had as many state champs (three - 106, 120, 170) as the Saints.

The Saints also had three second-place finishers: Tanner Hood '17 (145), Carter Davis '17 (152) and John Fergusson '15 (170).

Jens Ames '18 (182) finished third, Jacob Hale '15 (138) fourth and Bo Williamson '17 (132) and Hunter Wigginton '15 (160) fifth.

The Saints will take a solid group to the National Preps Tournament this week. Prata won the National Preps crown at 106 pounds in 2014, helping the Saints to a 10th-place finish.
