Jay Weisbrod '09 visited Mrs. Zhu's Chinese 2 Honors class on Oct. 24 to share his experiences in China and talk with students about how language and cultural skills helped shape his career path. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Jay landed a teaching job in southwestern China. He then moved on to work for the world’s largest textile manufacturer, Esquel Group, which produces about 100 million shirts annually for leading brands including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Nike. He worked with all Chinese colleagues and became proficient in Mandarin. Recently, he took a job with Smithfield Foods and will start working half of the time in China and half of the time in the States.
Vasil Siromahov, who goes by Vasko, is an ASSIST scholar from Bulgaria. Vasko is spending his junior year at St. Christopher's and is being hosted by Mike Hawkins '21.
Alejandro Martín, who goes by Alex, is an ASSIST scholar from Zaragoza, Spain. Alex is spending his junior year at St. Christopher's and is being hosted by Jayden Smith '21.
Jan Šilha, who goes by Honza, is a student at PORG, our partner school in Prague. He enjoys science, English, debate, ballroom dancing, skiiing, and traveling, among other activities. He will be a part of the STC Upper School through the June exams. If you see him, please be sure to say "Ahoj!"
