State VISAA player of the year and first-team all-Metro pick Matthew Fernandez '16 will continue his tennis career at the University of Richmond.
The Prep League champion chose the Spiders over Wake Forest, Bucknell and William & Mary. He becomes the fifth Saint from the class of 2016 to choose UR, joining Nick Sherod (basketball), Tazle Sumpter (football), Sean Menges (lacrosse) and Ross Abrash (baseball).
"I can do what I want academically and athletically at Richmond," Fernandez said. "I would like to start my freshman year and hopefully make an impact."
Fernandez committed over the weekend and will sign his National Letter of Intent Wednesday. You can watch the ceremony HERE.
Joining Fernandez in signing will be Sherod, Menges, Abrash, Michigan swimming commit Charlie Swanson and Virginia Tech wrestling pledge Joey Prata. Sumpter and future UNC soccer goalie Drew Romig are scheduled to sign in February.
