Saints fall short to Cadets

by Jack Franko '18
The varsity football team was handed its second loss of the season Friday at Benedictine, 23 - 17.

The Saints (2-2) entered the fourth quarter tied with the Cadets at 10 apiece, but two touchdowns in 25 seconds allowed the Cadets (4-1) to pull away.

After a Benedictine field goal, early interceptions by seniors Wilson Bedell and Joseph Costello set up scores for St. Chris. Thomas Cottrell '15 connected on a 24-yard field goal and Sean Menges '16 scored on a 5-yard run to put the Saints up 10-3.

But, the Cadets tied the score with an 18-yard touchdown strike from junior quarterback Jake Waldrop to Donaven Tennyson.

Benedictine surged ahead in the fourth quarter with a 3-yard run from Waldrop and another touchdown pass to Tennyson, this time for 28 yards. Jeb Bemiss helped the Saints try to pull off a comeback by scoring on a one-yard QB-keeper, but the Cadets held on to win.

Menges led the team in tackles with 14 and Charlie De Venoge '16 racked up 44 rushing yards on nine carries.

Come support the Saints when they face off against FUMA on Friday at 3 o’clock.
