Saints end game on 28-3 run

Defense racks up seven sacks.
After getting down 14-3 early in the second period, the varsity football team hunkered down defensively and churned out 26 first downs offensively en route to a 31-17 victory over Trinity Episcopal Saturday afternoon.

The Fall Festival crowd was a little uneasy after Trevion Armstrong caught two TD passes for the Titans (4-4). But the running game of StC (4-3) started to roll, en route to 271 ground yards.

Sean Menges '16 (15 carries, 146 yards, 2 TDs) and Charlie de Venoge '16 (18 carries, 92 yards) did the brunt of the work behind a strong offensive line performance.

John Tyson '15, Tazle Sumpter '16, Richard Hamrick '15, Henry Stillwell '15 and Walker Rise '15 opened holes and kept both quarterbacks reasonably clean.

Perhaps the momentum changer came on defense, though.

After Menges ran in from three yards out with 2:13 left in the first half, Jacob Roberson '15 picked off the next Bowen pass intended for Armstrong. The Saints then went 57 yards in seven plays for another score, this time a 13-yard Menges jaunt for a 17-14 lead.

The Saints would trail no more as Fleet Wallace '15 and Roberson tacked on TDs in the fourth period.

StC will host Wooberry Forest Saturday at 1 pm on Senior Day.
