St. Christopher's honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Week-long observances included chapel talks and visits to slave trail and holocaust museum
The St. Christopher's community honored the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a series of events stretching over the span of a week. Clarence "Bucky" McGill, a member of the Syracuse 8, revisited St. Christopher's on Thursday, January 12 and US Spanish teacher Dr. Christian Cousins spoke on Friday, January 13. Both men spoke about the importance of naming racism when it is present and taking a stand for what's right.

In that same vein, Middle Schoolers confronted racism and genocide with trips to Richmond's Slave Trail and the Richmond Holocaust Museum this week.

Director of Community and Inclusion Shawn Moore closed the week of observance by reciting Dr. King's final sermon in US chapel.

“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
