Basketball takes opener

Petrie '17 now second all-time leading scorer in school history.
It didn't take long in his senior campaign for Alexander Petrie '17 to move up the record books.

The Lafayette signee poured in 31 points to lead the varsity basketball team over J.R. Tucker Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams. Petrie, a 6-3 guard, has now scored 1,315 points in his career, surpassing current Drexel star Rodney Williams (1,297) for second place all-time. 

The Saints trailed by as much as eight in the first half of the Rebel Invitational opener and finished that half on a 9-2 run to take a 25-24 lead into halftime. StC then pushed the advantage to 10 on a 9-0 run and didn't look back.

Joe Bamisile '20 put in 10 points in his varsity debut. Ameer Bennett '17 and Jack Essex '17 each had nice days inside with eight points each. Donovan Murphy '17 (six points), Jimmy Starnes '19 and Arnold Henderson '19 also played pivotal roles off the bench in the victory.

The Saints will face Atlee Thursday at Douglas Freeman at 6 pm in the second round.
