Johnson '18 is a Hokie

Standout golfer will join teammate Brockwell '18 at Virginia Tech.
After dealing with recruiting for a long period of time, Connor Johnson '18 decided Wednesday, October 26 that Virginia Tech is his future home.

The all-Prep League and all-state golfer chose the Hokies after attending a VT football game recently, and didn't want to wait any longer. He'll join Saint teammate Drew Brockwell '18 at VT. Brockwell committed last year as a sophomore.

"Coach [Jay] Hardwick and coach [Brian] Sharp are both great guys," Johnson said, "and coaches who I feel I can really improve my game under and become that next level, elite collegiate golfer."

Johnson's been elite at StC for years, having played varsity since his 8th grade year. That year he made the all-state team, competing against players four and five years older.

He's been a strong player since. This past year Johnson finished fourth in stroke play at the VSGA Amateur Championship, and he competed along with Brockwell in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship alongside the best players 18-and-under in the world.

"Having Drew on the team and having a bunch of my friends up there is going to be really fun," Johnson said. "[Drew] was pushing me [to commit to Virginia Tech] pretty hard. It's going to be a really fun time up there. I'm really excited.

"Having this weight off of my shoulders is pretty nice."
