Noah O'Neill '16 was named 2016 Male Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete of the Year Monday night at the awards banquet.

O'Neill is the third St. Christopher's student to earn the prestigious honor, joining Pope Hackney '97 and Clarke Gottwald '08.

"It's such an honor to win this award considering how many talented candidates were in the room," O'Neill said. "I feel so blessed to have attended St. Christopher's and been given so many incredible opportunities. I'm very grateful and humbled to be recognized for my hard work."

O'Neill was a stellar student-athlete who competed in three sports and carried a 4.5 grade-point average. He racked up a 2200 SAT score, was the president of the Student Council. He also garnered many other academic awards and recognitions, and will attend the University of Virginia in the fall.

At 6-4, O'Neill was a force on the soccer field, racking up first-team all-state honors, leading the Saints in scoring in his junior and senior season. He had 15 goals in 2015 as a captain.

He also captained the basketball team, helping the Saints to a team record 24 wins and highest final state ranking in school history (fourth). O'Neill also rejoined the varsity golf team this season after taking a break his junior year and was a valuable leader.
